Debbie Thomas

Proprietor

Grey's Peak
Canterbury, New Zealand

Debbie and Peter Thomas are the owners of Grey’s Peak, a small, family-owned vineyard located in the limestone-laden Omihi Hills of New Zealand’s South Island In 2004, Peter Thomas, a native New Zealander, retired from over 30 years of investment banking and purchased a farm with the idea of growing and producing the perfect Pinot Noir. Debbie Thomas, Peter’s wife, is a native New Englander with a career background in sales and marketing.

A talented, creative team was assembled and with a bit of luck and a fair amount of hard work, Grey’s Peak’s 2012 Thomas Brothers’ Pinot Noir was named “Best International Pinot Noir” at the Decanter Wine Awards in London in 2013. Since then, Grey’s Peak has won numerous awards including being named one of New Zealand’s Top 20 Wineries (out of more than 600), as well as being named “New Zealand Organic Winery of the Year”(2017). In 2018 Grey’s Peak winemaker, Dom Maxwell, was named “New Zealand Winemaker of the Year”.

Peter and Debbie have a home in Nantucket and have been coming to the island to spend summers for the past 31 years. The rest of the year they live in Australia.
